Beauty ideals may vary internationally from region to region but full thick shining hair is desirable in all cultures all over the world because it is a symbol of health and youth. Thinning or loss of hairs is considered as a major catastrophe in people of all ages as it makes them appear older than what they actually are.
Men are the most afflicted victims of hair loss or thinning all over the world as they commonly suffer from androgenic alopecia also commonly called male pattern baldness. The hormone dihydrotestosterone plays a key role in androgenic alopecia. This hormone is formed from testosterone-a male sex hormone under the influence of an enzyme. Dihydrotestosterone causes hair to become thinner and thinner in particular areas such as crown, temples, brows and finally to fall out.
Transplantation of a patient’s own hair is a skilful redistribution of healthy hair follicles to bald patches and with the newer methods available results in a natural appearance. These transplanted hair follicles continue growing healthy hair which can be washed, trimmed, blow dried and dyed normally.
What are various methods used and doing hair transplant?
The various methods are:
What is FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation)?
Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) or the “strip” method is a surgically invasive procedure, in this method a strip of hair-bearing skin from the back of scalp is excised surgically and then this strip is placed under microscope or magnification and the technicians using sharp blades separate the graft into units of one to four hairs. The surgeon then prepares the hairline and recipient site using needles or blades. The follicular units are then placed on to the recipient site with a fine forceps. The single hair follicular grafts are used to create the hairline for a more natural appearance whereas the follicular units having two or more hairs are used behind for density.
What is FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction)?
FUE was the next advancement in hair transplantation surgery. It was developed in the early nineties and has replaced FUT in most places. It is a very safe and minimally invasive procedure and there is no need to excise a piece of the scalp skin because the follicles are removed directly from the donor area using tiny punches as small as 1mm sometimes even less and forceps. The PUNCH is manually rotated to make a small circular incision around the hair follicle which is then directly removed from the scalp using forceps. After sufficient numbers of follicles have been extracted they have implanted into the recipient area in the same way as the “strip” method. In FUE method there is little bleeding and fewer complications than with the “strip” method. Also, there is no scar in the posterior scalp region. However, the biggest disadvantage of manual FUE is that it is a very slow procedure and requires long operating hours in FUE extraction.
SAFER NEOGRAFT AUTOMATED/ROBOTIC FUE
What is Automated or Robotic FUE?
The newest and the most advanced method of hair transplantation is NEOGRAFT automated FUE and implantation system. With the SAFER NEOGRAFT automated FUE, all the difficulties associated with manual FUE have been eliminated and has made it much faster reducing the time required for hair transplant. NEOGRAFT uses pneumatic pressure to extract the follicles and to implant them precisely. It has combined the advantages of a “strip” method that is the speed and precision of FUE.
It is in the best interest of all hair restoration patients to be offered the advantage of SAFER NEOGRAFT automated FUE or ROBOTIC FUE as it is the best tool available for hair transplant today.
How NEOGRAFT WORKS?
What are the advantages of SAFER NEOGRAFT automated FUE?
Who is a good candidate for automated/robotic FUE?
The patient who would like to wear a very short hair cut in the back or side of their scalp and those who want the least amount of activity restriction after their hair transplant surgery is good candidates for NEOGRAFT surgery.
How soon will I see the hair growth?
Once, the follicles have been implanted into the balding area. The grafted hair will stay in place for about two to three weeks before shedding. After shedding the new growth will appear after three to four months and then it continues to normal growth.
How long will the hairs last?
The transplanted hairs from the back and sides of the scalps will never fall however with advancing age and the balding process you may need to have more sessions of hair transplant to maintain the required density. As the native hair in the balding area continues to fall under the effect of circulating male hormones.
Is FUE NEOGRAFT suitable for both males and females?
Yes, NEOGRAFT is an excellent procedure for both males and females alike. It is a fast safe and minimally invasive procedure with excellent results.
How is NEOGRAFT (robotic/automated FUE) performed?
It is performed under local anaesthesia. NEOGRAFT uses controlled pneumatic pressure to harvest the grafts smoothly and there is no pulling or twisting which can damage a graft. The harvest is a quick and minimally invasive procedure producing no scars. The grafts are harvested quickly with precision and implanted in the recipient area.
What are the disadvantages of SAFER NEOGRAFT FUE?
The only disadvantage with this procedure is that it requires training for the surgeon and this is not easily available.
To sum up, SAFER NEOGRAFT automated FUE is the latest and state of the art technology for hair restoration surgery. It is minimally invasive, fast having a short recovery period with excellent results. All patients needing hair transplant surgery should be given the benefit of this excellent technique.
