Hymenoplasty is usually a 30-45 minute procedure and can be done in an out-patient surgery centre or in-office using general or local anaesthesia. The doctor uses dissolvable stitches to reconnect the membrane that once partially covered the opening to the vagina.
It is a very simple procedure that must be done at least 4 to 6 weeks before the wedding so the internal sutures have disappeared completely.
A tear-through biomaterial can be inserted. This is also a temporary measure, carried out shortly before marriage.
In this procedure, the surgeon will create a new hymen using tissues from the lip of the vagina.
